The National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) is situated on a 10 acre waterfront site in Ringaskiddy, County Cork. The €52 million, 14,000m2 state-of-the-art college commenced operations in October 2004 and is one of the most sophisticated centres for maritime education in Europe, with specialist equipment and top class simulation facilities.

The NMCI is a constituent college of the Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) in partnership with the Irish Naval Sevice. It was the first third level college to be built under the Government's public-private partnership programme and will service the maritime education needs of both the CIT and the non-military needs of the Irish Naval Service. The college will accommodate approximately 750 full-time equivalent students (based on an academic year).

Specialist spaces include survival facilities, seamanship and shipwrights' workshops, fire fighting / damage control, jetty and lifeboat facilities and an engine room. The college also provides specialised simulation equipment in the areas of navigation, bridge training, communications, engineering-machinery operations, liquid cargo handling/damage control and vessel traffic systems.
